Rate Of Burr Ridge's New Virus Cases Falls: Agencies

The village sees another coronavirus death in the last week.

BURR RIDGE, IL — In the last week, Burr Ridge saw an increase of 37 new coronavirus cases, for a total of 827, according to health authorities. That represents a 4.7 percent increase, lower than the previous week's 7 percent hike.

The virus has infected 7.7 percent of the town's population.

Of local coronavirus victims, the mortality rate is 3.7 percent. Since the start of the pandemic, the village has had 30 coronavirus-related deaths, most of them at nursing homes. One of those deaths was last week.

As of Sunday, Burr Ridge had 76.9 coronavirus cases per thousand people, which is higher that suburban Cook County as a whole. The figure compares to 56.2 in La Grange Park, 59.4 in Darien, 60.8 in Western Springs, 62.8 in Hinsdale, 68.2 in DuPage County, 70 in Elmhurst, 71 Clarendon Hills, 75 in suburban Cook County and 83.5 in La Grange (including unincorporated La Grange Highlands).

"Area positivity rates continue to stay well below the 12 percent threshold of concern, but have crept up into the 8-9 percent range recently," Burr Ridge Mayor Gary Grasso said in his weekly coronavirus statement last week. "The uptick in positivity rates may be due to lower sample (testing) sizes. Area hospitals continue to be able to treat those needing treatment with the availability of ICU beds increasing — a good metric and a blessing that others in our country may not share."
