BURR RIDGE, IL – A Gower Middle School student made a threat to harm classmates, information of which was shared on Snapchat, the school reported last week.

Principal Tracy Murphy told parents about the incident in a Sept. 12 mass email. Patch obtained the message Wednesday.

She said she met with the student involved as well as the student's parent.

"There is no evidence of this being a credible threat in any form," Murphy said in the email. "We have been in communication with the Burr Ridge Police Department and appreciate their support in situations such as this and their ongoing commitment to keep our campus safe."

She said an increase in the department's presence was expected "out of an abundance of caution."

"I understand that threats of any kind can cause a great deal of concern and anxiety," Murphy said. "Please know that our staff is fully equipped to support our student body. We also encourage all parents to remind their children, 'if you see something, say something.'"

Patch has left a message for comment with the superintendent.
