Chicago Flamenco Festival Salutes International Women's Day - March 8

Featured artists Amparo Heredia & Raquel Heredia showcased in must-see concert repeated on March 9 at Instituto Cervantes of Chicago

Instituto Cervantes of Chicago (31 W. Ohio St.) continues the 22nd Chicago Flamenco Festival with a special International Women's Day concert featuring Amparo Heredia Reyes ("La Repompilla") and Raquel Heredia ("La Repompa") at 7 p.m. Friday, March 8 with an encore performance 7 p.m., Saturday, March 9. For these concerts, they will be joined on stage by Ángel Ruíz and Manolo de Córdoba.

In 2021, the Granada cantaora Amparo Heredia Reyes won the "Lámpara Minera" in the 60th edition of the Festival Internacional del Cante de las Minas. Her performance in the finals of taranto, farruca, mineras, malagueña, taranta, rondeña, seguiriya garnered her the cantes bajo andaluces, cantes of Málaga, Granada, Córdoba and Huelva, and Mineras, thus achieving the highest award given by the festival.

Flamenco dancer Raquel Heredia is the daughter of Rafaela Reyes. Raquel began her dancing career early on in Canada with the support of her family before moving to New York to work with dancer Juan Andrés Maya, who traveled with her to Japan and back to Spain. Raquel has done numerous tours in the US, Norway, Netherlands, Morocco, Turkey and Paris, where she performed in the Versailles Gardens to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Cristian Dior along with her mother, Rafaela Reyes

The 22nd Chicago Flamenco Festival is dedicated to the preservation, presentation and celebration of the multi-cultural art form of flamenco, includes an extraordinary lineup, featuring performances by esteemed flamenco artists from Chicago and across the U.S., as well as internationally renowned artists from Spain.
