CHICAGO, IL— Moms do so much for everyone around them. We try to celebrate them all year long, but Mother's Day is a perfect opportunity to shout it from the rooftops and post it on Patch: Mom rocks!

Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize the awesome moms and mom figures in communities like yours.

This submission comes from Sharon Forbes, who nominated Celia Davenport of Chicago.

What makes your Mom extra special?

Celia is a single mom with a 7-year-old son who is of course full of energy and quite curious as many are his age, but also has a medical concern that needs to be closely monitored, which Celia provides.

Celia works hard every day as a teacher of special needs students to support, educate and encourage each to promote their educational and personal growth. She is additionally a student herself, working towards earning a doctorate in order to provide better services to students with disabilities. When not engaged in work or school she fully directs her time and energy toward her young son, and provides the best care and community opportunities for his growth, development and enjoyment of life experiences.

Why do you feel your Mom deserves the spotlight?

For all the reasons described in the above, and because her efforts are frequently overlooked.

Happy Mother's Day to Celia Davenport, and thank you for all you do!
