Chicago's Buckingham Fountain Closed After Being Dyed Red By Protesters Overnight

The protesters dyed the water in the fountain red, and spray-painted the bricks on the surrounding plaza.

CHICAGO (CBS) — The Chicago Park District on Saturday morning said Buckingham Fountain in Grant Park will be closed "until further notice," after it was vandalized by protesters overnight.

The protesters dyed the water in the fountain red, and spray-painted the bricks on the surrounding plaza.

A source told CBS 2 vandals dumped a highly-concentrated pond dye into the water. The dye is thought to be non-toxic, but still has the fountain shut down indefinitely.
