Edgewater Environmental Coalition (EEC), along with the Andersonville Chamber of Commerce and 48th Ward, will host its fourth annual green your Halloween event with the Edgewater Pumpkin Smash on Saturday, November 4 from 12 pm – 4 pm in the parking lot at 6040 N. Clark St., just north of the fire station. The goal is to have some Halloween-related fun while reducing waste and educating residents about the advantages of composting food waste. In the last three years, the Edgewater Pumpkin Smash has diverted more than 12 tons of pumpkins from area landfills dropped off by hundreds of area residents.

The event is free. Residents are welcome to drive through to drop off their pumpkins, or join in the smashing fun by tossing their pumpkins in the giant compost container. We request that all pumpkins dropped off are free of non-biodegradable materials such as candles, plastic or metal decorations.

EEC is a group of local volunteers who actively partner with our neighbors, local schools, block clubs, faith groups and elected officials in order to create a sustainable and environmentally friendly future for ourselves and succeeding generations.
