Chicago, Illinois – Dr. Logan Consulting, an Evanston, IL-based equity and inclusion consulting firm, invites educators, parents, caregivers and other who work with youth to the launch of the N-Word Intervention Project, designed to help adults and youth confront and navigate the pain, outrage, defensiveness, defiance, fear, and refusal to engage, associated with usage of the N-word.

The N-Word Project offers Pre-K – 12 school districts a structured program to educate and engage its school community on how to productively respond when the N-word is used in a school setting.

On Saturday, May 6, an event in Evanston, IL (see details below) will celebrate the launch and provide attendees the opportunity to experience portions of the program itself. The launch event will feature a history of the N-Word, an engaging activity, discussion, resources, description of the program’s impact, and West African drumming by SOUL Creations.

Joaquin Stephenson, former Director of Equity and Family/Community Engagement, Evanston/Skokie School District 65, experienced a pilot version of the program. He observed that the program was invaluable and instrumental in supporting the district following a string of racist incidents that took place in several of its schools.

“Dr. Logan and his team created a groundbreaking curriculum, resource guide, and professional development plan for staff that does not exist anywhere across the nation for a Pre-K - 8th Grade school district,” Stephenson said.

Bryan Kelly, Learning and School Culture Coordinator for Skokie-Morton Grove School District 69, also in the Chicago area, said the research, experiences, and recommendations shared by Dr. Logan and his team were impactful for his entire junior high school community.

“Through our partnership with them, we have laid a foundation to build from in terms of learning, reflection, and connection in our junior high school community. Their willingness to model implementation of their Project curriculum for our staff will support our ability to sustain implementation in years to come,” Kelly said.
