CHICAGO — Friday may have brought a dose of April 1 high jinks to local residents on high alert for questionable tidbits and stories, but the National Weather Service isn’t joking when it forecasts some possible weekend snow.

The potential for flurries could arrive a day after residents in some Chicago suburbs awoke to a light dusting of snow to begin the new month after flurries and light showers persisted throughout the day Thursday.

Forecasters predict that a narrow band of snow could be seen Saturday, when rain is expected to move into the area. The National Weather Service shows 100 percent of rain for the entire region, but some areas could see snow mix with the rain as temperatures are expected to remain in the mid-30s for the day.

Temperatures are forecast to remain cool Saturday night and may stay below freezing before the sun returns Sunday for a bit of milder temperatures, the National Weather Service said. Temperatures Sunday may reach into the upper 40s or low 50s before more rain moves in Sunday night and into Monday morning to start the workweek.

Temperatures are not expected to make it beyond the mid-50s next week, with rain possible every day through Thursday, forecasters predict.
