Spring Is Coming, But Snow May Show Up Once More Friday: IL Weather

Scattered rain and snow showers are expected throughout the day on Friday before some areas could see an overnight dusting into Saturday.

CHICAGO — As if a slew of rainy days the past week hasn’t been enough of a reminder that spring is taking its time settling in, Old Man Winter may get in one final word before he leaves for the season.

The National Weather Service is predicting that the region could see periods of snow showers on Friday as rain dreary weather is expected to stick around for at least one more day. After gray skies were prevalent on Thursday, forecasters are predicting that the region will likely see a mix of rain and snow overnight into Friday morning, with temperatures hovering in the mid-30s.

The rain will stick around into Friday, when scattered rain and snow showers are expected between mid-morning and mid-afternoon. Temperatures will struggle to reach into the 40s, the National Weather Service said.

Rain and snow showers may extend through 3 p.m. on Friday and although there is an 80 percent chance of precipitation, forecasters are predicting little to no accumulation across the greater Chicago weather.

Snow showers are expected through the overnight hours into Saturday morning and some areas could see up to a half-inch of snow that sticks. Temperatures overnight will hover right around freezing with wind gusts could reach 10-20 mph, the forecasters said.

The sun comes out on Saturday, with temperatures remaining in the low 40s before next week will finally bring some of the mild spring air local residents have been patiently be awaiting.
