ILLINOIS — For local residents who hoped that the Easter weekend will produce more ideal springtime temperatures, the sun will finally provide some relief.

But that doesn’t mean the temperatures will play along, according to the National Weather Service.

Following a week that produced everything from a 70-degree temperature reading to severe storms to howling gusty winds, the weekend appears more favorable in terms of blue skies. While the Chicago area dried off on Thursday when high wind advisories remained in place as wind gusts pushed 60 MPH, some areas could see more rain on Friday, forecasters predicted.

Much of the Chicago area is expected to see a 30 percent chance of rain with temperatures dipping into the low 50s. Winds will remain in place and could provide gusts of up to 30 MPH under mostly cloudy skies.

The chance of rain will stick around until the overnight hours of Saturday morning when there is a 20 percent chance of rain before 1 a.m., forecasters said.

The sun will re-appear on Saturday, but temperatures will struggle to climb out of the upper 40s before dipping into the low 30s again overnight.

The sun is expected to return again on Sunday but as will be the case on Saturday, temperatures will remain cool and won’t even reach the mid-40s despite partly sunny skies, forecasters said.

The next week will continue to remain cool with the National Weather Service predicting that periods of rain will return while temperatures will stick in the 40s and 50s for much of the week.
