CHICAGO — After spring officially sprung on Sunday, the unseasonably warm temperatures will stick around for an enjoyable start to the workweek, but the sunny conditions will be short-lived and more precipitation is expected to stick around.

The National Weather Service is forecasting that the greater Chicago area will get a second straight dose of spring on Monday when the sun will return and when temperatures will push 70 degrees.

But the pleasant weather will then turn colder and wet as more rain is expected to move back into the region late Monday night and into Tuesday, the National Weather Service said. Temperatures will drop into the 50s on Tuesday as rain is forecasted to stick around until Thursday.

Forecasters predict that there is at least a 90 percent chance of rain throughout the three-day stretch in the middle part of the week. On Wednesday, the National Weather Service is calling for a 100 percent chance of rain.

Overnight lows will remain above freezing but mid-week wind and breezes will keep temperatures from returning to the levels that the region saw on Sunday when the sun was prevalent, and temperatures got into the 60s.

There is a slight chance for a rain-snow mix Wednesday into Thursday before temperatures will struggle to reach the upper 40s on Thursday when the rain finally moves out, forecasters predict.

The sun returns Friday, but temperatures will remain in the low 50s before temperatures remain cooler to start the weekend.
