LAKE IN THE HILLS, IL — The Lake in the Hills Police Department will be taking part in the Saturation Saturday initiative this weekend, which means local officers will increase their enforcement efforts with the hopes of keeping drunken and drugged drivers off the road. Mothers Against Drunk Driving Illinois is spearheading the statewide Saturation Saturday effort, which will take place during the evening hours of Saturday, Aug. 24 through the early morning hours of Sunday, Aug. 25.

Saturation Saturday coincides with another traffic safety campaign currently underway in Lake in the Hills that runs through Sept. 3. As a part of that campaign, officers will be on the lookout for impaired, unbuckled and distracted drivers.

The campaign is aimed at lowering drunk driving crashes and fatalities during one of the busiest travel weeks of the year, according to a LITH Police Department news release.

"Before the fun starts this Labor Day, remember to designate a sober driver and don’t let friends or family members drive drunk. Even a small amount of alcohol can impair judgment and reaction times, making driving unsafe," police said.

The “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign is funded by federal traffic safety funds administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation. The crackdown runs concurrently with a media campaign reminding motorists that impaired driving has “Life or Death” consequences.
