Woman Gets 8 Years In Prison For Crystal Lake Burglaries

CRYSTAL LAKE, IL — A 43-year-old Elgin woman has been sentenced to eight years in prison in connection with a series of home burglaries that happened in Crystal Lake earlier this year.

Miriam Aranda was convicted on two counts of residential burglary following her arrest in February. Police allege Aranda pawned more than 200 items, some of which she is believed to have stolen from homes, and received about $35,000 since July 2018.

Police in Crystal Lake traced Aranda's cell phone data, which showed her in the area of Chasefield Lane around the time of several reported burglaries in February. On Feb. 20, Aranda was spotted entering a locked apartment building in the Chaefield Crossings condominiums, according to a news release from the McHenry County State's Attorney's Office.

Police took her into custody at the time on an out-of-state warrant, according to the news release.

Cell phone data showed Aranda went to a Cash For Gold location after the burglaries where police believe she sold stolen items, according to prosecutors. Detectives reviewed Aranda's history of pawning items and learned she pawned more than 200 items, starting as early as July 2018, receiving about $35,000.
