PHOTOS: REO Speedwagon at Devon Lakeshore Amphitheater

As temperatures soar into the 90’s, one thing is for sure: summer concerts are in full swing.

Classic rock group REO Speedwagon returned to their home state of Illinois for a mid-week, sold-out show at the Devon Lakeshore Amphitheater in Decatur last Wednesday night.

REO Speedwagon is no stranger to Illinois. The band was formed in nearby Champaign back in 1967.

Their lead singer, Kevin Cronin, who joined the band in 1971, grew up in the Chicago suburb of Oak Lawn.

Southern Illinois residents tend to have a lot of memories from REO’s early days when they were just a small bar band.

All these years later, REO Speedwagon is still together but playing much larger venues than hometown bars. In fact, the band jokes around that they're still a bar band, they just play much larger bars now; the Devon Lakeshore Amphitheater being one of those big bars!

Opening for REO Speedwagon on Wednesday was Nashville-based country group, Levon.

Levon has opened for REO Speedwagon about 50 times over the past six years.

Following Levon’s set, as the sun started to go down and the venue finished filling in, REO Speedwagon took the stage for their own 14-song set.

Fans were feeding off REO’s incredible energy for the entire show, singing along to the band’s radio anthems as vocalist Kevin Cronin showed no signs of slowing down anytime soon.

Slowing down is the last thing REO Speedwagon will be doing. The group will be embarking on a summer trek with Train which kicks off July 8th in Wisconsin and runs through September. For a full list of tour dates, visit REO Speedwagon’s website.
