Caterpillar Moving Global Headquarters From Deerfield To Texas

The company announced Tuesday it will begin transitioning its headquarters to the Dallas-Fort Worth area this year.

DEERFIELD, IL — Five years after moving its global headquarters to Deerfield from Peoria, Caterpillar Inc. announced Wednesday it is on the move again. The Fortune 100 company will soon be headquartered in Irving, Texas, part of the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

With sales and revenues of $51 billion last year, Caterpillar Inc. is the world's leading manufacturer of construction and mining equipment, off-highway diesel and natural gas engines, industrial gas turbines and diesel-electric locomotives, according to its website.

Caterpillar Inc. moved to Deerfield's Corporate 500 Centre office park on Lake Cook Road in 2017. The company was initially established in 1910 in East Peoria.

“We believe it’s in the best strategic interest of the company to make this move, which supports Caterpillar’s strategy for profitable growth as we help our customers build a better, more sustainable world,” said Jim Umpleby, chairman and CEO, in a statement.

According to the company, Caterpillar has had a presence in Texas since the 1960s across several areas of the company. Illinois remains the largest concentration of Caterpillar employees anywhere in the world.
