Coming up Fast: Village of Riverwoods ‘Cars in the Woods’ on June 22

Community invited to view Riverwoods residents' antique, classic cars and special interest cars on Saturday, June 22 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Car enthusiasts and their families are invited to enjoy ‘Cars in the Woods,’ the second Riverwoods Invitational Car Show, on Saturday, June 22 being held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Flatwoods Heritage Center on the grounds of Riverwoods Village Hall, located at 300 Portwine Road, Riverwoods.

There is no charge to attend. Guests are welcome to stay and picnic outside the Riverwoods Village Hall. Parking will be available. Village Hall will be open for access to rest rooms and water fountains.

The only requirement is that the car(s) must be owned by a Riverwoods resident. As of now, car owners who will exhibit are Allan Hirsch, John Maxson, Steve Pokorny, Norm Noerper, Mike Schlessinger, Gary Fromm, Jim Neil, Ron Fohrman, Ed Clement and Darius Tajanko.

Auto owners welcome the opportunity to visit with guests and discuss their cars’ uniqueness and back story.

If you own a collectible car (old or new), are a Riverwoods resident, and would like to display it, please contact John Maxson (312-933-3239) or Norman Noerper (847-975-6794). There are a limited number of car spaces. (Cars and their owners should arrive at 10 a.m.)

If you don’t own a collectible car but just want to have some fun, then plan a picnic lunch and come to see the cars, be outdoors, and enjoy time together.

A Fun, Non-Judged Car Show

“This is a non-judged show set up only for enjoying the cars. We are not focused on any particular type of car, however, we would anticipate classic, modern sports cars and special interest cars, 1960s muscle cars, restored classic cars, and antique cars to be on exhibit,” said John Maxson, a long-time collector including his Model A Ford (re-stored twice) purchased for $400 when he was in high school.

Examples of Cars on Display

As of now, examples of cars that will be on display include: 1953 Rolls Royce Silver Wraith, 1941 Packard Model 120, 2004 Thunderbird, 1955 Ford Thunderbird, 1972 Z28 Camaro, 2000 Rolls-Royce Corniche, 1955 Porsche Spyder, 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air, 1949 Willys Jeepster, 2028 Corvette Z06 Coupe, 2024 Corvette 206 Coupe, and a 2021 Camaro Rally Sport Shock and Steel Edition.
