Poetic Kwanzaa with Oba William King at Deerfield Public Library

Kwanzaa program on December 17 features storytelling and drumming

Celebrate joy, heritage, and culture this holiday season at the Deerfield Public Library with Chicago’s own Oba William King. The Kwanzaa program is an interactive entertainment which celebrates African American heritage and embraces all people in the celebration, and includes a drumming demonstration.

Mr. King is an Illinois Arts Council Fellowship Recipient in traditional Folk Arts. He masterfully combines professional theatrical training with a distinct poetic style, and engages audiences by immersing them in the playful realm of rhythm and rhyme. Mr. King has been featured on WTTW and WBEZ, and also in programs at area museums.

The free program is scheduled for Friday, December 17, 2:00-3:00 p.m. It will be presented in-person at the Deerfield Public Library, 920 Waukegan Rd., and registration is required. You can register online or by phone, 847-945-3311. For information about other upcoming programs, visit deerfieldlibrary.org, and click on “Programs.”
