Snow Parking Rules Set To Go Into Effect In Deerfield

After an accumulation of 2 inches of snow, parking is prohibited on any street for a period of 24 hours after the snow has stopped falling.

DEERFIELD, IL — With Tuesday's snowfall, winter is starting to creep in across Chicagoland. With it, municipalities will be rolling out snow parking rules specific to the total amount of snow that falls during a particular storm.

In Deerfield, a winter weather advisory is currently in effect through 6 a.m. Wednesday. Accuweather is predicting periods of snow, including lake effect snow showers, with slushy accumulations on roadways expected. Total snow accumulations of 2 to 5 inches are expected.

After an accumulation of 2 inches of snow, parking is prohibited on any street for a period of 24 hours after the snow has stopped falling, according to the Village. If snow removal is still needed after that period, parking is prohibited until operations are completed.

Residents are asked not to clear their driveways by returning snow to the street. The Village also asks all residents to be considerate of pedestrians and school children by clearing sidewalks of snow and ice.

As part of the revised sidewalk snow clearing program, the Deerfield Public Works Department clears approximately 24 miles of sidewalk throughout Deerfield, according to the Village. This program focuses on strategically important locations that include the sidewalks along major thoroughfares such as Deerfield, Waukegan and Lake Cook Roads. The program also concentrates on the sidewalks around schools, the downtown shopping district and Metra parking lots.
