DEERFIELD, IL — While brainstorming ideas to increase awareness and funding for the Deerfield Public Library and its services, the board members of Friends of the Library came up with a winning idea. Set to launch in April during National Library Week (April 8-11), "Deerfield Dines Out" will feature 16 participating local restaurants.

"For an inaugural event, we are humbled by the outpouring of support from the Deerfield restaurant community," Tracey Pavlishin, of Friends of the Library, tells Patch.

Participating restaurants, according to Pavlishin, include:

Friends of the Library fund items and sponsor programs, that are not otherwise in the library's budget. The not-for-profit organization is always looking for new members, with donations beginning at $15, according to Pavlishin.

The Friends run a bookstore in the library where proceeds from gently used books are used to support Library programs, including the popular summer reading program and much more. Books can be donated behind the registration desk at the library at any time.

While raising money is a goal of "Deerfield Dines Out," along with increasing awareness of the library's services, Pavlishin said the event will also be successful by supporting local restaurants.

"The aim of this fundraising event is to connect residents to local restaurants, celebrate the positive impact of the library in our community and contribute funds to support library programs, equipment and supplies," Pavlishin said.
