DEERFIELD, IL — Walgreens is consolidating its entire work space on the Deerfield campus to one group of buildings, with plans to sell the other two sets of buildings, or essentially two-thirds of the operation. A Walgreens Boots Alliance spokesperson told Patch all work will be now be conducted in four buildings at 100 Wilmot Road, with office properties at 200 and 300 Wilmot Road hitting the market.

Marty Maloney, senior manager of media relations, said the Deerfield location will remain the pharmacy giant's corporate headquarters. He added that there will be no impact to the other real estate owned by the company like the Chicago offices located at a former post office at 433 W. Van Buren St.

The company released the following statement regarding the pending sale:

"We recognize the way we work has changed and with our hybrid model valued by our team members, we have underutilized space on our Deerfield Campus. To reimagine the space to fit our current needs and create efficiencies that allow us to invest in the business, we have made the decision to sell several buildings that are part of our support office. We remain committed to a presence in Deerfield, and we’re confident this provides enough space to help facilitate more opportunities for meaningful in-person interactions."

The move follows similar moves by other major companies in the Deerfield area, including Allstate, Caterpillar and Baxter International.

In November 2021, Dermody purchased the majority of the former Allstate campus in nearby unincorporated Northbrook for a reported $232 million. At the time, an Allstate spokesperson told Patch that 95 percent of its workforce, which includes 8,000 employees in Illinois, work remotely.

Last year, Baxter International announced it is selling its 645,688-square-foot headquarters in Deerfield.

"Workplace dynamics are changing, with Baxter offering and many employees choosing a hybrid work model consisting of both days working remote and days in the office," Baxter said in a statement as reported by Chicago Tribune. "To best meet the evolving needs of our employees, Baxter is reviewing options related to our current headquarters — which was designed and built in the 1970s — and will pursue options for a new modern and more sustainable headquarters."

Also in 2022, Caterpillar Inc. announced moving its headquarters from Deerfield to Irving, Texas, part of the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

"We believe it’s in the best strategic interest of the company to make this move, which supports Caterpillar's strategy for profitable growth as we help our customers build a better, more sustainable world," Jim Umpleby, chairman and CEO, said at the time.
