Walgreens Will Begin Selling Abortion Pill Next Week: Spokesperson

The Deerfield-based company said it will start selling mifepristone in Illinois, New York, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts and California.

DEERFIELD, IL — After completing the FDA certification process to dispense the abortion pill mifepristone, Walgreens announced Friday it will begin distributing it in select stores in five states in the next week.

A spokesperson for the Deerfield-based parent company, Walgreens Boots Alliance, tells Patch mifepristone will be sold in Illinois, New York, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts and California, confirming a report by the New York Times. The report also said CVS will begin a rollout of mifepristone.

"We are beginning a phased rollout in select locations to allow us to ensure quality, safety, and privacy for our patients, providers, and team members," the Walgreens spokesperson said.

WBA, headquartered at 108 Wilmot Road in Deerfield, oversees 9,277 Walgreens and Duane Reade stores in the U.S.
