FRANKFORT, IL — All the eager families ready to show off their costumes and get to collecting that candy can get started a couple of days early at the free Frankfort Police Department's E.F. Bucko Costume Parade and Safety Trunk or Treat.

The event is scheduled to take place from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 29, at the Breidert Green Municipal lot in downtown Frankfort.

The E.F. Bucko Costume Parade will kick off the morning festivities at 10 a.m. Frankfort Police Chief Leanne Chelepis will lead the parade.

The parade is named after former Frankfort Deputy Chief Edward Francis Bukowinski, who died in 1995, according to Frankfort police officer Mark Thompson, who is one of the coordinators for the event.

The E.F. Bucko Parade had been a long-standing tradition in Frankfort before the Police Department added it in 2013 to the Safety Truck or Treat, Thompson said.

Following the parade, children and their families can load up on goodies from local businesses and organizations, which will be on site with trunks full of candy and trinkets to pass out during the Safety Trunk or Treat.

But the E.F. Bucko Costume Parade and Safety Trunk or Treat isn't just about handing out treats and trinkets to all the little Frankfort ghouls and goblins. This year the Frankfort PD is collecting food donations for the Frankfort Township Food Pantry to help out those in need during this holiday season, Thompson said.
