Deck Fire Thursday In Frankfort Causes Extensive Damage, No Injuries

FRANKFORT, IL — A fire that started on the deck of a home Thursday caused extensive damage, but the occupants of the home were able to get to safety, according to the Frankfort Fire Protection District.

The fire happened at approximately 1:43 p.m. in the 20200 block of Greenfield Lane, according to FFPD. The person who placed the 911 call told dispatchers that everyone in the home was evacuating, and no injuries were reported.

Several other 911 calls were made regarding the fire, which could be seen for miles away, according to FFPD.

Firefighters were at the home within three minutes of the original call, and the fire was deemed under control within 20 minutes, according to FFPD.

The fire extended from the two-story deck into the home's second floor and attic, FFPD said. It was estimated the fire cause approximately $125,000 worth of damage.

The fire appeared to be accidental, FFPD said.

Mokena, New Lenox, Orland Park, Palos Fire and Tinley Park fire crews assisted with the call.
