Shots Fired At Matteson Amazon Fulfillment Center Parking Lot: Police

Local police said they are looking for a person of interest who fired shots at someone in another vehicle after the two argued.

MATTESON, IL — Police are searching for a gunman who opened fire at a vehicle in the parking lot of an Amazon fulfillment center Tuesday morning during an altercation with another person, police said on Tuesday.

The shooting took place at around 10:53 a.m., police said. Matteson police arrived within four minutes, but both the suspect and the victim whose vehicle was shot at were no longer at the scene, police said.

Police said in a news release that witnesses told officers that an altercation occurred between people in two separate vehicles. One person took out a gun and fired at the other person but no one was hit, police said.

Police said they are searching for a person of interest but will not release information about the person at this time.

The fulfillment center is at 7001 Vollmer Road. Fox 32 reported that police placed at least six evidence markers throughout the parking lot. Police said they are working with Amazon security officials at the center as they investigate the incident.

A message left for an Amazon spokesperson was not immediately returned to Patch on Tuesday.

The Matteson fulfillment center opened in 2021 and was expected to employ 3,200 people once it got to full operating capacity, the Sun-Times reported.
