TikTok Challenge Has Frankfort Schools, Police On Alert

FRANKFORT, IL — A TikTok challenge making the rounds has police, schools and parents on alert. The challenge reportedly calls for students to threaten gun violence Dec. 17.

Frankfort Police Deputy Chief Kevin Keegan told Patch via email Thursday that Frankfort School District 157-C and its resource officer are aware of the TikTok challenge, but added that there is no specific threat to any of Frankfort's schools.

Summit Hill School District 161 Superintendent Paul McDermott issued a statement that reads, in part: "Please know that, in conjunction with local law enforcement, we will continue to monitor social media and provide an increased police presence in our community. There are no indications of any threats towards SHSD161 at this time. We are sharing this notice out of an abundance of caution and as a precautionary measure."

Lincoln-Way Community High School District 210 sent an email to parents stating that there was "no indication of specific threats within Lincoln-Way District 210 at this time."

"Safety is our top priority," the statement continued. "We are in communication with local law enforcement and will continue to be vigilant in monitoring the situation. Please be sure to report any concerning messages that you see or hear to administration and/or local authorities."

Other police departments in the Lincoln-Way area are issuing similar statements. The New Lenox and Mokena Police Departments have both told Patch that they are aware of the challenge and are increasing the police presence around schools.
