GENEVA, IL — Geneva will celebrate Memorial Day with the American Legion Geneva Post 75's annual parade on Monday.

Over at the Geneva Police Department, the day is also a cause for celebration as officers will use the occasion to launch their new drone for the first time.

The procession will step off at 10 a.m. Monday from the Geneva Train Station. The Skydio X10 will take off before the parade begins and be operated by two officers who received pilot certifications from the Federal Aviation Administration after completing training at the College of DuPage's Homeland Security Training Center.

The drone will allow police to monitor parades and special events in real time under the Drones for First Responders Act.

"The addition of drone surveillance helps strengthen the Geneva Police Department’s security measures already in place for large-scale community events," police said in a news release.
