ARRESTS

VIOLATION OF PROBATION

Johnny Benitez, 32, of the 900 block of 9th Street, Northfield, had a warrant for violation of probation, and was arrested at 7:41 p.m. March 13. He was processed and taken to court for a detention hearing.

DISORDERLY CONDUCT

Jordan Coleman, 29, of the 2500 block of Waterview Drive, is accused of criminal trespass, and was arrested at 12:47 p.m. March 14, at Gardner School, 2380 Waterview Drive. He was released and assigned a court date of April 12.

INCIDENTS

IDENTITY THEFT

  • A Church Street resident reported at 4:10 p.m. March 12, someone opened a Verizon cell phone account without permission, which they discovered after receiving a bill from Verizon for $144.63.
  • A Rolling Pass resident reported at 4:26 p.m. March 13, receiving an account default notice from Verizon showing a past due amount of $1,080.74. They said they never opened the account and did not give anyone permission to use their information.
  • An Arlington Heights resident reported at 11:25 a.m. March 15, someone attempted to rent an apartment in California using their personal identity.

RETAIL THEFT

  • An employee of a business in the 2500 block of Waukegan Road called police at 8:54 p.m. March 12, to report two people were seen on surveillance video filling a Whole Foods shopping cart with alcohol bottles. They were recognized by employees from previous retail thefts at the location, in which they wore similar clothing of high visibility vests and ski masks. The employee confronted them and they left the store without the proceeds.
  • An employee of a business in the 2700 block of Old Willow Road reported at 2:02 p.m. March 13, someone took merchandise past the last point of purchase without paying for the items.
  • A Harwood Heights resident was issued a village ordinance at 6:57 p.m. March 15, after police responded to a retail theft at a business in the 2200 block of Willow Road.

COMMERCIAL BURGLARY

  • Police responded to a business in the 2000 block of Waukegan Road at 12:24 a.m. March 14, for an alarm indicating a front glass break. They found the front glass door smashed and a cigarette pack holder on the ground. The owner responded to the scene and had surveillance that showed an unknown male use a hammer to break the front window. He is seen gathering packs of cigarettes from behind the counter and then he leaves with the proceeds after approximately one minute.
  • An employee of a business in the 2000 block of Johns Drive reported at 12:10 p.m. March 16, the front window of the business was shattered and the building was ransacked. A locked safe was opened and $1,200 was missing. A vehicle belonging to the business was stolen. A customer's vehicle was also stolen. Surveillance video shows a black SUV, occupied by 4 people, arrived at 12:55 a.m. with one or two exiting the vehicle.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE

  • An employee of a business in the 1200 block of Milwaukee Avenue reported that at 4:20 p.m. March 13, a vehicle with an unknown driver did "donuts" on the driveway of the business. The vehicle left tire marks on the pavement.
  • A resident of the 2100 block of Golf Court reported at 10:47 p.m. March 15, several people in their late teens or early 20s ran through the backyard and damaged the fence.

NO VALID DRIVER'S LICENSE

  • An Arlington Heights resident was cited at 6:05 p.m. March 14, for no valid driver's license, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, after being involved in a traffic crash at Harlem Avenue and Colfax Avenue. They were released at the scene.
  • A Chicago resident was charged at 11:04 a.m. March 15, with speeding, no valid driver's license, after a traffic stop in the 800 block of East Lake Avenue. They were street booked and released.
  • A resident in the 1000 block of Castilian Court was issued a citation for no valid driver's license at 8:39 p.m. March 15, after a traffic stop in the 500 block of Milwaukee Avenue. They were street booked and released.
  • A resident in the 4600 block of Laurel Avenue was issued citations at 8:40 p.m. March 16, for no valid driver's license, having one headlamp, after a traffic stop in the 3100 block of Sanders Road. They were street booked and released.

CRIMINAL TRESPASS

An employee of a business in the 3400 block of Milwaukee Avenue reported at 10:20 a.m. March 15, several open beer cans were found inside the vacant building and suspected someone was inside a locked room. Officers checked the building and found the locked room now open and a rear exit door propped open. The building was secured.

FORGERY

An employee of a business in the 800 block of Waukegan Road called police at 1:25 p.m. March 15, to report someone opened an account and deposited a fraudulent check in the amount of $2,440.

THEFT

  • A resident reported at 2:02 p.m. March 16, someone had stolen their electric bicycle while it was parked unlocked behind a business in the 2500 block of Waukegan Road.
  • A resident in the 2700 block of Landwehr Road reported at 10:19 a.m. March 17, they had responded to a Facebook Ad to purchase a used vehicle. The seller requested the victim send a $200 deposit through Zelle to secure the purchase. The victim attempted to arrange pickup for the vehicle and realized they had been scammed.

STOLEN VEHICLE

A Bannockburn resident reported at 1:30 p.m. March 16, their vehicle was stolen while parked at a business in the 2000 block of Johns Drive.

TRESPASSING

A manager of a business in the 1300 block of Patriot Boulevard reported at 4:23 p.m. March 17, a known customer, who had previously been trespassed, entered the business. They left prior to police arrival.

BURGLARY FROM VEHICLE

A resident in the 1000 block of Linden Leaf Drive reported at 4:58 a.m. March 19, two people had entered the opened attached garage, as well as entered an unlocked vehicle that was parked in the driveway. The resident turned on their house lights and the pair ran back to their vehicle, leaving the scene.
