GLENVIEW, IL — Following last year's success of the inaugural event, the Glenview Park District is bringing back National Night Out, Aug. 6, outside Park Center. The event is intended to improve relations between the community and the police department.

"This is an invaluable opportunity for our officers to come together with members of the community to build and strengthen relationships, foster trust and collaborate with neighbors," said Mark Ciesla, deputy chief of police. "We are excited to be there and look forward to spending a beautiful summer evening at Park Center."

National Night Out will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at 2400 Chestnut Ave. Organizers said this year's event will feature touch-a-truck activities, inflatables, face painting, games, food trucks, a Bicycle Town (requiring participants to bring their own bike and helmet), and a Kids' Community Walk at the end of the event complete with glow bracelets and bubbles.

"National Night Out is a celebration of community," said Kara Graber, visual arts and recreation supervisor at the Glenview Park District. "I love seeing families interact with police, fire and park district staff in a positive way for a night of fun."

First introduced in 1984, National Night Out involved 2.5 million neighbors across 400 communities in 23 states last summer.
