8 Glenview Runners Complete 2024 Boston Marathon

A field of 17 former champions and nearly 30,000 runners raced Monday in the annual Patriots' Day event.

GLENVIEW, IL — The Boston Marathon is the world's oldest annual marathon, and a Patriots' Day tradition in Massachusetts. The 128th edition, held Monday, featured 17 former champions and nearly 30,000 runners, including some local participants from Glenview.

Sisay Lemma, 33, from Ethiopia was the winner with an unofficial time of two hours, six minutes, and 17 seconds. Race officials said Lemma's time was the 10th fastest in the history of the marathon. The top American male finisher was CJ Albertson, who clocked in at 2:09:53, good enough for 10th overall.

On the women's side, Hellen Obiri, of Kenya, crossed the finish line first with a time of 2:22:37. Emma Hayes was the first American female to cross the finish line, with a time of 2:27:14, good for 12th overall.
