Child Porn Arrest Made Following CyberTip: Glenview PD Blotter

The 18-year-old Glenview resident was charged with possession of child pornography.

Venecia Alanis, 41, of the 6300 block of W. Montrose Avenue, Chicago, is accused of seven counts of retail theft at multiple Jewel-Osco locations, and was arrested at 9:30 a.m. May 10, at the Skokie Courthouse, 5600 Old Orchard Road, Skokie. She was released following her arrest and was assigned a court date of June 24.

George Shimon, 18, of the 3800 block of Appian Way, Glenview, is accused of possession of child pornography, and was arrested at 3:03 p.m. May 9, following a CyberTip investigation. He was released and assigned a court date of May 10.

INCIDENTS

THEFT

  • A Park Ridge resident reported on May 7 that they had purchased seven gift cards for at 4:41 p.m. April 23, at a business in the 2300 block of Capital Drive, valued at $1,125. An employee assisted at the gift card display, and two more employees completed the transaction at the customer service counter. When the gift cards were used, there was a zero balance. One of the gift cards showed a history of a purchase on April 27 that they did not make.
  • A resident in the 100 block of Rutgers Court called police on May 10, to report that between Oct. 2, 2023, and April 22, someone stole their silver flatware set from the kitchen. They had many contractors doing work on the residence for the last couple of months, with many people having access to the home. Estimated loss is $10,000.

IDENTITY THEFT

  • A Pfingsten Road resident reported at 1:57 p.m. May 7, someone opened utility service accounts using their personal information. No monetary loss had been reported.
  • A Chestnut Avenue resident called police at 2:45 p.m May 8, to report someone had used their personal information to apply for an apartment in Tacoma, Washington, in August 2023. There was a balance of $303.35 sent to a collection agency.
  • An Ammer Ridge Road resident called police at 3:27 p.m. May 8, to report someone had completed a wire transfer from their Chase bank account for $423 and sent the money to Mexico.
  • A Greenwood Road resident called police at 5:10 p.m. May 8, to report someone had used their credit card to make two unauthorized purchases for $49.95 each at Way to Go.
  • A Bel Air Drive resident called police at 2:16 p.m. May 10, to report someone had redeemed 30,000 miles from their American Airlines Advantage Rewards Program, valued at $300.
  • A Chicago resident reported on May 11, that at 3:06 p.m. May 20, someone had withdrawn $1,800 from their Fifth Third Bank account, in person, at the Glenview Fifth Third Bank location at 1529 Waukegan Road.
  • A Fontana Drive reported at 1:42 p.m. May 13, receiving a call from a male with an accent who stated he was calling from Bank of America about a suspicious charge on their Visa card. The caller ID showed the local Glenview branch number. They gave the caller the last four digits of their social security number, but then became suspicious and hung up the phone. They contacted Bank of America, who denied calling and said there were no suspicious charges.

RETAIL THEFT

  • A loss prevention officer for a business in the 2500 block of Waukegan Road reported on May 8 that a retail theft had occurred on the prior day. They had reviewed surveillance and saw a man, between the ages of 20 and 30, between 225 and 235 pounds, that they recognized from previous retail thefts at that location. The male entered the store at 6:16 a.m., concealed cosmetic and over the counter medications in a grey bag, then left the store without paying for the items, walking westbound on Westleigh Drive. Total loss is $1,035.
  • A loss prevention manager for a business in the 1000 block of Waukegan Road reported on May 9, that on the previous day at 7:56 p.m., a female customer stole lamb loin chops and rack rib chops from the store. She is seen on surveillance putting the items in a black reusable shopping bag and exiting the store without paying. The female is described as wearing a white tank top and white shorts, who entered a black Dodge Avenger, with an unknown registration. Total loss is $46.
  • An employee of a business in the 2200 block of Willow Road reported at 7:18 p.m. May 13, a Chicago resident had concealed several items in a purse and only paid for the purse at self-checkout. They then exited the store past the last point of purchase without paying for the items. They were stopped outside and officers issued them a village ordinance citation for retail theft, in addition to a trespass warning not to return.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE

  • A Buffalo Grove resident reported at 5:41 p.m. May 8, pulling into a handicapped parking space at the Ambulatory Care Center, 2180 Pfingsten Road, and not seeing another vehicle that had been waiting for the space. The passenger from the waiting vehicle, a Skokie resident, approached the vehicle and hit it multiple times with their cane, causing a small dent. The Skokie resident was issued a village ordinance citation for criminal damage to property.
  • A resident in the 900 block of E. Glenwood Road reported at 1:53 p.m. May 12, the rear window of their vehicle was shattered sometime overnight while it was parked in the driveway. Nothing appeared to be ransacked or taken from the vehicle.
BATTERY
  • A refused complainant reported at 6:20 p.m. May 10, two men were fighting in the 4700 block of Laurel Avenue. Officers made contact with two intoxicated subjects at the address, a Des Plaines resident and a Gurnee resident. Both admitted to fighting but would not disclose the reason to officers. Both refused any police/medical assistance.
  • A resident in the 3000 block of Central Road called police at 10:04 p.m. May 13, to report someone stumbling outside their residence. The person was speaking a foreign language and mumbling. They grabbed the caller's arm when the caller tried to take a picture of them. They denied grabbing them and said they were trying to get home.

POSSESSION OF CANNABIS

A Lotus Lane resident was cited at 11:30m p.m. May 11, under village ordinance for possession of cannabis after a traffic stop in the 2500 block of Indigo Lane.

SUSPICIOUS INCIDENT

A resident in the 1400 block of Forest Drive reported at 12:50 a.m. May 13, their realtor advised
them that they saw a Facebook Marketplace ad for appliances. The realtor messaged the person, who gave the address of the resident and asked for a down payment for the items. The caller wanted the incident documented in case potential buyers show up at their residence.
