Counterfeit $100 Bills Passed At Various Stores: Glenview PD Blotter

Police said five business were hit with the fake money over the course of two days last week.

GLENVIEW, IL — The following information comes from the Glenview Police Department (unless otherwise noted) and court records as a record of police activity, including incidents reported by the public and those arrested by police. Criminal charges represent accusations by the state and are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court.

ARRESTS

HARASSMENT BY ELECTRONIC COMMUNICATION

Andrew Blinov, 35, of the 400 block of W. Diversey Parkway, Chicago, is accused of harassment by electronic communication threatening injury, and was arrested at 11:20 p.m. April 6. He was released following his arrest and assigned a court date of May 2.

Caitlin Sciaky, 30, of the 800 block of Sussex Road, Carol Stream, is accused of driving under the influence, DUI alcohol with a blood alcohol concentration level of .08 or more, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, and was arrested at 1:28 p.m. April 3, at BP, 2401 Sanders Road. She was released following her arrest and assigned a court date of May 16.

INCIDENTS

CRIMINAL DAMAGE TO PROPERTY

  • A resident in the 900 block of Lenox reported on April 2 that at 4:45 a.m. March 31, a neighbor had seen unknown people attempt to enter their vehicle parked in the driveway. The people did not make entry but damaged the front passenger side window.
  • An agent for a property in the 2200 block of Sanders Road called police at 8:54 p.m. April 2, to report two unknown people were seen on video entering the building at 7:30 p.m. and they did not see them exit. Two exterior glass doors and four windows were damaged. Nobody was found in the building. Estimate damage is $16,000.

HARASSMENT BY ELECTRONIC COMMUNICATION

An Essex Court resident called police at 3:59 p.m. April 2, to report receiving threatening messages from an ex-friend. The messages were implying physical harm. They were advised to cease communication.

RETAIL THEFT

An employee for a business in the 2300 block of Capital Drive reported at 8:41 a.m. April 4, to report two unknown men entered the liquor section and one of the men placed four bottles of Jack Daniels into his jacket, then left the store without paying. The second male returned 20 minutes later and the manager told him the police were coming. The male ran to the parking lot. A third unknown male had been waiting outside the store. They were seen running through the parking lot and were not seen entering any vehicle. The estimated loss is $87.96.

THEFT

  • A Chestnut Avenue resident reported on April 4 that someone had taken their Orcam Read reading machine, valued at $1,990, on Dec. 21, 2023.
  • A Crystal Lake resident called police at 10:15 p.m. April 6, to report someone stole their wallet and cellphone from their purse while they were at a business in the 2200 block of Shermer Road. They could not provide any offender information but will sign a complaint if the person is identified. Estimated loss is $300.
  • The employees of a business in the 1800 block of Tower Drive called police at 8:22 p.m. April 7, to report a customer did not have money to pay their tab. They said this was not the first time they have been there and unable to pay. The business requested the person be given a trespass warning.

CRIMINAL TRESPASS TO PROPERTY

An employee of a business in the 900 block of River Drive reported at 3:55 p.m. April 5 a former customer had entered the business after being told not to return to the business in the past. They did not want them arrested, but requested they be given another trespass warning. Officers issued them another trespass warning.

FORGERY

  • An employee of a business in the 2700 block of Pfingsten Road called police at 5:05 p.m. April 6, to report someone purchased food using a counterfeit $100 bill. The male had a medium build, was wearing a black sweatshirt, black pants, and sand-colored boots. They had medium length dread locks held together in a ponytail. Officers searched the area but could not locate the person.
  • An employee of a business in the 2100 block of Willow Road reported at 5:34 p.m. April 6, someone had attempted to purchase items with a counterfeit $100 bill. The male was between 20 and 25 years old, was wearing a red-hooded sweatshirt. Officers searched the area but could not locate the person.
  • The owner of a business in the 2800 block of Pfingsten Road called police at 5:05 p.m. April 6, to report a male had ordered food and paid with a $100 bill. The owner gave the male $84.63 cash as change for the order. The male then left. A neighboring business advised them that the bill was possibly counterfeit and the same male was in their store, but did not complete a transaction. The male was seen entering a blue Ford Focus parked in the lot, occupied by three other people. The male is described as black, between 18 and 19 years of age, between 5-foot-6 and 5-foot-7, 170 to 180 pounds, with black dread locks, brown eyes, wearing a graffiti t-shirt and skinny jeans.
  • An employee of a business in the 2300 block of Capital Drive called police at 8:08 p.m. April 7, to report three counterfeit $100 bills were located while closing out the registers. The bills were each used at a different register, but they were unable to view their surveillance video for a time or to provide a description of the offender.
  • An employee of a business in the 3800 block of Willow Road reported on April 8 that at 5 p.m. April 7, a male in their mid-20s with dreadlocks and silver teeth, with tattoos on both cheeks and both sides of his neck, purchased food and paid for the meal with a $100. The male received approximately $80 cash in change. Employees did not realize the $100 was counterfeit until the male left the store.

ARSON

Police responded to Westbrook Elementary School, 1333 Greenwood Road, at 8:08 a.m. April 7, for a report of a small fire inside the dugout. They located a melted garbage can and wood benches that had been damaged. There were beer cans and dog feces in the garbage can that appeared to be the source of the fire. Glenview Fire Department personnel estimate the fire starting two to four hours prior to the call.

ASSAULT

An employee of a business in the 3500 block of Milwaukee Avenue reported at 5 p.m. April 7, an intoxicated person was at the business. They refused them service. The employee told them to leave, and they attempted to punch the employee, but were unsuccessful.

SUSPICIOUS INCIDENT

A Nordica Avenue resident called police at 9:28 p.m. April 7, to report receiving a phone call from a male. The male said he was from U.S. Bank and asked them for their routing number from their check, which they provided. The resident then became suspicious and hung up the call. A neighbor came to check on the homeowner, advising the landline phone had been busy. The homeowner called ATT, who reported someone had placed a block on the phone line and had calls forwarded to a different phone number. They do not believe there is any financial loss at this time and the phone line has been restored.

POSSESSION OF CANNABIS

A Chicago resident was cited at 8:52 p.m. April 8, under village ordinance, for possession of cannabis, following too closely, after a traffic stop in the 1200 block of Milwaukee Avenue. They were released at the scene.
