Coyote Sightings Are 'Quite Common' in Glenview: Animal Control

Roughly three sightings a week are called in to the village.

The village of Glenview receives “probably 3 calls a week” about coyotes in the area, according to Animal Control Officer Judi Roseman.

“Sometimes they are in the same vicinity, but often times they aren’t,” said Roseman, adding that the animals can travel quite far in a short time span. “30 miles a day for a male is nothing.”

The village keeps a running log of sightings of coyotes and foxes. Sightings of both are “quite common,” but usually not during the same times, Roseman said.

“Generally when someone reports a fox sighting, we don’t get a coyote report for some time since they tend to stay away from each other,” she said.

Coyotes, she added, are seen in greater numbers during mating season, which just passed.

The calls are encouraged for informational purposes only.

“We don’t do anything other than handle the sick and injured,” she said. “We don’t discriminate and leave nature be.”
