Flash Flooding Closes Roads

The National Weather Service issued flooding advisories Sunday night as Glenview and nearby communities experienced dangerous conditions.

GLENVIEW, IL — The National Weather Service issued flood advisory warnings throughout the area at around 10 p.m. Sunday night due to elevated water levels as a result of heavy rainfall since Saturday. Glenview is among the locations experiencing flooding.

Illinois 43 at Overlook Drive in Glenview is closed. In addition, according to the Northfield Township Road District, these roads were closed:

  • Glenwood Lane, from Central to Linneman
  • Glendale Road, from Central to Linneman
  • Central Road, from Deerlove to River Rd.
  • River Road has water over the road at Gregory Lane

Other areas experiencing flooding include: Chicago, Aurora, Joliet, Naperville, Elgin, Waukegan, Cicero, Hammond, Gary, Evanston, Schaumburg, Boilingbrook, Palatine, Skokie, Des Plaines, Orland Park, Tinley Park, Oak Lawn and Berwyn.

  • Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.
  • Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding.
  • Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other drainage areas and low-lying spots.
