Glenview Mosquitoes Test Positive For West Nile Virus Again

The North Shore Mosquito Abatement District said despite the results, risk of infection for humans remains low.

GLENVIEW, IL — Though more mosquitoes in Glenview tested positive for the West Nile Virus this week, the risk of infection remains low, according to the North Shore Mosquito Abatement District. Even so, the agency is recommending residents take safety precautions.

In its latest report, released on Wednesday, NSMAD officials said four of six mosquito batches tested last week came back positive for the virus in Glenview/Golf. For the season, 23 of 106 batches tested returned positive for the single-stranded RNA virus that causes West Nile fever.

In the latest report, mosquitoes tested in Evanston, Glencoe, Kenilworth, Lincolnwood, Morton Grove, Niles, Northfield, Skokie, Wilmette and Winnetka were also found to be positive for the virus.

"We continue to recommend that people take personal protection measures, most importantly, using an EPA registered mosquito repellent, wearing proper attire and eliminating or draining items that can hold stagnant water," the agency said in the news release.

The first batch of mosquitoes tested in Glenview to come back positive for WNV were collected between July 5-8.

The NSMAD is asking residents to contact the agency for assistance with large areas of standing water, or to report sites with an abundance of potential water holding containers. Find out more about NSMAD here.
