Mosquitoes Test Positive For West Nile Virus In Glenview: Agency

The North Shore Mosquito Abatement District said the mosquitoes tested positive Tuesday at its Northfield lab.

GLENVIEW, IL — Add Glenview to the list of municipalities having mosquitoes test positive for the West Nile Virus. According to the North Shore Municipal Abatement District, the mosquitoes, which were collected last Friday, tested positive at its Northfield lab on Tuesday.

This year, WNV positive mosquitoes have also been found in traps in Evanston, Kenilworth, Lincolnwood, Morton Grove, Northbrook, Northfield, Skokie, and Wilmette. The most current test results are available at the agency's website.

According to NSMAD, being infected with West Nile virus is low at this time. The agency recommends residents take personal protection measures to minimize mosquito bites, including:

  • use an EPA registered insect repellent
  • wear loose fitting clothing
  • examine their property and eliminate any items that can hold water, particularly smaller items that may be easily overlooked
  • contact the NSMAD for assistance with any mosquito related issues they may be experiencing. "If it can hold water, it can breed mosquitoes."
