Neighbor Becomes Upset At Non-English Speaker: Glenview PD Blotter

The neighbor was also upset children playing outside were being too loud, according to police.

GLENVIEW, IL — The following information comes from the Glenview Police Department (unless otherwise noted) and court records as a record of police activity, including incidents reported by the public and those arrested by police. Criminal charges represent accusations by the state and are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court.

VIOLATION OF AN ORDER OF PROTECTION

Anton Ursini, 70, of the 3700 block of N. Lake Shore Drive, Chicago, is accused of violation of an order of protection, and was arrested at 6:02 p.m. July 21. A court date of July 29 was assigned.

INCIDENTS

COMMERCIAL BURGLARY

A Wilmette resident reported at 12:08 p.m. July 16, their storage locker, located in the 1700 block of Waukegan Road, was emptied by someone. The lock appears to have been cut off and a new lock had been put on. The owner rents two lockers at the facility and locks were changed on both, with one locker completely emptied.

THEFT

  • A Henley Street resident called police at 1:57 p.m. July 17, to report attempting to purchase a camera through Facebook Marketplace. The person they were buying it from had agreed to meet in the 1800 block of Tower Drive for the sale, but then told the resident that she would like half of the payment up front, so the resident sent $90 Apple Cash to their email. The person told them she was on the way and asked for the remaining $90, which they sent via Apple Cash. The person never showed up and immediately deleted the Facebook account.
  • A resident in the 2400 block of Saranac Lake called police at 8:44 a.m. July 18, to report someone had stolen the front license plate off their vehicle while it was parked in the driveway overnight.
  • A Northbrook resident reported at 1:57 p.m. July 21, someone had cut the lock off their locker inside the men's locker room at LA Fitness, 3880 Willow Road, and took $1,000.
  • A Michael Manor resident reported at 2:55 p.m. July 21, someone had cut the lock off their locker inside the men's locker room at LA Fitness, 3880 Willow Road, andt ook the lock. No other items were taken.

NEIGHBOR DISPUTE

A resident in the 1800 block of Wildberry Drive called police at 7:53 p.m. July 17, to report their parent and children were outside the residence playing, when a neighbor approached them, but became upset when the parent did not speak English. The neighbor later spoke with them and sent several emails to them complaining about their children being loud, in addition to their parent not speaking English. Officers made contact with the neighbor and told them to cease all forms of communication with them.

ASSAULT

An umpire reported at 7:59 p.m. July 17, officiating a baseball game at a Glenview park. The umpire made a call that one of the head coaches did not like, and the coach approached them on the field, yelling. The umpire ejected the coach from the game. The coach initially walked away, but then returned and got in the umpire’s face, yelling again, which the umpire felt he would receive a battery. The umpire canceled the game.

DISTURBANCE

Employees of a business in the 1500 block of Milwaukee Avenue reported at 3:47 a.m. July 18, a dispute between the occupants of two neighboring rooms. The first occupant said the person in the next room was pounding on the wall, which upset them, and they then yelled at each other in the hallway. The neighbor said the person entered the room late and was slamming things in the room and against the wall, which upset them, so they pounded on the wall to tell them to be quiet. The first occupant received a room in a different location for the evening.

TRESPASSING

Union Pacific Railroad advised someone was walking on the tracks at 10:53 a.m. July 18, near Milwaukee Avenue and Dearlove Road. The person was located and was advised it was trespassing.

TRESPASS WARNING

  • Employees of a business in the 1500 block of East Lake Avenue reported at 5:39 p.m. July 18, someone had entered the restaurant and ordered food. Due to previous incidents of them not paying, they refused to serve them and requested they be given a trespass warning. Officers located them in the area and told them not to return to the restaurant.
  • Employees of a business in the 1400 bloc of Milwaukee Avenue called police at 10:44 p.m. July 19, to report someone had been sleeping in a vehicle in the parking lot for the past week. They were advised they are no longer welcome on the property. They were given a trespass warning and left without incident.
  • Employees of a business in the 2700 block of Pfingsten Road called police at 9:38 a.m. July 19, to report someone had entered the business with a dog and was told on a prior occasion they were not allowed to have a dog in the store even if it was on a leash. They said they were unaware of the prior notice. Trespass warning given and received.

SUSPICIOUS PHONE CALLS

A Ridgewood Lane resident reported at 6:27 p.m. July 19, receiving a harassing phone call from a Glencoe resident about a possible assault. The person was advised to cease further communication.

RETAIL THEFT

  • An employee of a business in the 1900 block of Tower Drive reported at 12:07 p.m. July 19, someone had pulled a price tag off a dress and placed it in their purse. The person continued to place multiple clothing items in the purse and left past all points of sale without paying. They were stopped outside by the employee and issued a Village Ordinance violation for theft and a no trespass warning. The total amount of stolen items was $512.98.
  • A manager of a business in the 1900 block of Tower Drive reported at 6:46 p.m. July 22, someone had stolen approximately six purses and left the store, on foot, northbound. The estimated loss is $1,602.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE

A resident of the 4100 block of Cove Lane called police at 10:49 a.m. July 19, to report they had discovered a broken passenger side window on their vehicle, which was parked in the parking lot. No items were taken from the vehicle, and they believe someone had attempted to steal the vehicle but were unsuccessful.

STOLEN VEHICLE

A resident of the 1900 block of Glen Oak Drive called police to report that during the overnight hours of July 19, their car had been taken from the driveway. Keys were left inside the vehicle, and it was spotted on FLOCK cameras at Skokie Jarvis at 5:54 a.m. July 19.

ORDINANCE VIOLATION

A resident in the 3500 block of Merle Lane reported at 8:51 p.m. July 20, seeing several people drinking alcohol behind the brick wall of the subdivision sign. Officers located one person, a Wheeling resident, who was in possession of an open beer can. They were issued a Village Ordinance Citation for the open alcohol and were released on scene.

IDENTITY THEFT

  • A Hollywood Avenue resident reported at 9:06 a.m. July 22, someone had opened a Verizon account without authorization. They said they received a bill for $673.23 and reported the fraudulent activity to Verizon. There is no loss at this time.
  • A Larch Avenue resident called police at 2:19 p.m. July 22, to report their Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits had been discontinued. They explained they contacted the Department of Human Services who said based on recent income ($1,068) they no longer qualified. The victim said they had not worked, and someone must have used their identity.
  • A Nordica Avenue resident reported at 8:27 p.m. July 22, receiving a call from someone who asked about a Visa card they were expecting. The victim said they received the card and provided several of the last digits to him. They later became suspicious of the call and contacted the bank. The victim learned the card had a $4,000 charge on it.

BATTERY

A manager of a business in the 3400 block of Milwaukee reported at 9:41 a.m. July 22, being battered by an employee of a nearby business. They said as they were getting out of their car before work, the person approached them, began yelling about parked vehicles, and pushed the victim with their chest. The person denied pushing the victim. This incident was captured on video.
