Neighbor Irked By 'Free Gaza' Signs: Glenview Police Blotter

Police advised the Jefferson Drive resident that his was not a police matter.

GLENVIEW, IL — The following information comes from the Glenview Police Department (unless otherwise noted) and court records as a record of police activity, including incidents reported by the public and those arrested by police. Criminal charges represent accusations by the state and are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court.

FORGERY

A Chicago resident reported on June 5 that they had mailed two checks from a business in the 1400 block of Patriot Boulevard on May 22, and one on May 23. The three checks were altered to two different, unauthorized payees and were cashed with BMO mobile in the amounts of $9,300, $9,375, and $9,825.

A manager of a business in the 1400 block of Waukegan Road reported at 8:19 p.m. June 5, receiving several complaints about a homeless person sleeping near the entrance of the store. When asked to leave, the person refused. Officers spoke with the property manager, who was willing to sign complaints if the person was not gone by the start of business on June 6. The person said they understood and would leave the next day.

BURGLARY FROM VEHICLE

A resident in the 100 block of Elm Street reported that during the overnight hours of June 6, their 2021 gray Infiniti had been rummaged through while it was parked in the driveway and their wallet was taken, which contained their driver’s license and $300 in cash. Their father also found a black purse on the lawn at 6 a.m. that did not belong to them.

COMMERCIAL BURGLARY

  • A Des Plaines resident reported on June 6 that their wallet was taken out of their unlocked locker between 5:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. in the 3800 block of Willow Road. The gym bag and purse were still inside the locker, but the wallet was missing, which contained their driver’s license, $500 in cash, and three debit cards.
  • An Arlington Heights resident reported at 7:50 p.m. June 10, their locker at a business in the 3800 block of Willow Road was broken into, resulting in $103 in cash and their combination lock being stolen. No suspect information was available.

INFORMATION FOR POLICE

A resident in the 1700 block of Jefferson Avenue reported at 11:45 a.m. June 7, a neighbor in the 1900 block of Melise Drive had used chalk to write the statements, "Free Gaza," and "We Need To Help," on their private property driveway inside the subdivision. They were advised this was not a police matter and that since both residents are HOA board members, they can address the matter via their HOA.

AGGRAVATED BATTERY

A Des Plaines resident reported at 10:34 a.m. June 8, a male, later identified as a resident of the 1300 block of Huber Lane, followed them after a road rage incident and chased them into a medical facility in the 2100 block of Pfingsten Road. The victim fell, incurring a minor injury, and broke their wristwatch. Medical treatment refused and no complaints desired by victim at time of incident.

UNLAWFUL USE OF A WEAPON

A Norridge resident reported at 4:13 p.m. June 8, a driver of a small black SUV pointed an unknown handgun at them as they were pulling out of a parking lot in the 1400 block of Milwaukee Avenue. The resident described the driver as a male, 30 to 40 years old, black hair, and a short beard.

WELL-BEING CHECK

A Park Ridge resident reported at 2:24 p.m. May 18, receiving suspicious text messages following a phone call with their spouse who resides in the 100 block of Waukegan Road. The text messages from an unknown sender threatened harm to their family. The spouse's well-being was confirmed by officers. The complainant suspects fellow jail inmates of being behind the texts as they were recently discharged from jail and provided their phone number to some of them.

THEFT

A resident in the 2300 block of Dewes Street reported at 9:14 a.m. June 10, they fell victim to a Facebook resale group scam in which they paid for a portion of the desired items and subsequently sent numerous shipping charges via Zelle per the suspect’s request. No complaints, report only desired for disputing the transactions with the bank.

HARASSMENT BY ELECTRONIC COMMUNICATION

A resident in the 1600 block of Winnetka Road reported on June 10 that on June 4, a former roommate was sending them threatening cell phone text messages. Upon review, the text messages were not immediately determined to be threatening, but rather expressing unhappiness that the former roommate was recently arrested.

AGGRAVATED IDENTITY THEFT

A resident in the 700 block of Carriage Hill reported at 3:25 p.m. June 10, a Goldman Sachs credit card was fraudulently opened in their name and currently had $7,826.06 in unauthorized charges on it. The bank froze the credit card and complaints will be signed if an offender is identified.
