GLENVIEW, IL — Since 2004, a public menorah lighting event has been held at Glenview Village Hall. This year's event, organized by Rohr Chabad Center of Glenview, is scheduled for 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 18, on the east lawn at 2500 E. Lake Ave.

"Chabad is a global organization with over 5,000 chapters worldwide," Rabbi Yishaya Benjaminson told Patch. "In Illinois, there are 50. Chabad has been lighting public menorahs since 1975."

Last year, Chabad of Glenview added a chocolate gelt drop to the fun festivities, which include hot cocoa, fresh latkes (courtesy of Trader Joe's), music and dancing., according to Benjaminson. He said after the menorah lighting, the Glenview Fire Department will assist with the event.
