GLENVIEW, IL — The following information comes from the Glenview Police Department (unless otherwise noted) and court records as a record of police activity, including incidents reported by the public and those arrested by police. Criminal charges represent accusations by the state and are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court.

ARRESTS

DRIVING WITH A SUSPENDED/REVOKED DRIVER'S LICENSE

Fuat Barisan, 24, of Parrish, Florida, is accused of driving with a suspended driver's license, operating a vehicle while using an electronic device, no valid registration, failure to wear a seatbelt, and was arrested at 7:25 p.m. April 19, following a traffic stop in the 1100 block of Milwaukee Avenue. He was released and assigned a court date of June 5.

Nicholas Kaczor, 19, of the 1600 block of Greenwood Road, Glenview, is accused of driving under the influence of alcohol, DUI alcohol with a blood alcohol concentration level of .08 or more, possession of a fictitious driver's license, illegal transportation of alcohol by a driver, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, and was arrested at 2:55 a.m. April 21, after a traffic crash investigation in the 2800 block of Independence Avenue. He was released and assigned a court date of May 21.

BATTERY
Ruben Rodriguez-Benitez, 55, of the 5100 block of W. Grace Street, Chicago, is accused of battery, and was arrested at 2 p.m. April 17, following an investigation into an incident in the 1800 block of Waukegan Road. He was released and assigned a court date of May 31.

HARASSMENT BY TELEPHONE

Talia Khio, 47, of the 100 block of Sequoia Drive, Glen Ellyn, is accused of harassment by telephone, and was arrested at 1:45 p.m April 22, following an investigation last month. He was released and assigned a court date of May 31.

INCIDENTS

UNLAWFUL USE OF A CREDIT CARD

An employee of a business in the 900 block of Shermer Road reported on April 15 that in October of last year, someone ordered four tires over the phone and paid via credit card. They brought in the vehicle later that day to have the tires installed. On Oct. 7, 2023, the company received notice that the credit card was stolen and they had a charge back of $1,325.30. The same person repeated the incident on Oct.5, 2023, giving the business a loss of $1,320.56

THEFT

  • A Northbrook resident reported that while they were shopping between 7 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. April 16, they had left their Apple Iphone in the cart and walked away from it. When they returned, the phone was gone.
  • A Washington Street resident reported at 11:11 a.m. April 21, talking with someone claiming to be "Elon Musk" via X and he deceived her out of $1,200. They reported Musk contacted her on X about a month ago and then asked if they could communicate via the app,"Signal." Throughout the month, they sent him gift cards (Apple, Visa, Steam) valued at $600 and an addition $600 through Bitcoin. They said they just realized they were not communicating with Musk and does not know who the person is.
  • An agent for a business in the 1800 block of Waukegan Road reported at 2:05 p.m. April 21, a Glenview resident was trying to return a vape unit that was missing parts. They said the person often steals small items and was advised they no longer want them at the store. The person was given a trespass warning not to return and they left without incident.
  • A Crestwood Drive resident called police at 11:45 a.m. April 22, to report receiving and responding to a spam text “73101” that had them link their cryptocurrency account to a wallet with the Department of Justice. They googled KuCoin scam and saw articles from the Securities Exchange Commission and believed the text to be true. They transferred $10,000 worth of currency and now it is gone.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE TO STATE SUPPORTED PROPERTY

Glenview Park District employees reported at 9:05 a.m. April 17, someone damaged the playground equipment at Indian Ridge Park, 2504 Indian Ridge Drive. Several words and drawings were etched with a sharp object onto the slides, picnic table, and sides of the equipment. The damage was discovered on April 15 and they are not sure when it occurred.

RETAIL THEFT

  • An employee of a business in the 2500 block of Waukegan Road reported at 9:59 a.m. April 17, seeing a Chicago resident conceal bottles of alcohol inside the store. Officers spoke with the person who admitted to concealing the alcohol and turned the items back over to the business. They were issued a village ordinance citation for theft and was given a formal trespass warning not to return.
  • Police responed to a business in the 2700 block of Pfingsten Road called police at 4:11 p.m. April 20, to report a delayed retail theft. A loss prevention officer for the business said while reviewing store security footage, they found on April 17 that two unknown males removed numerous bottles of alcohol and left in a black SUV, eastbound on Willow Road. They recognized the suspects from prior retail thefts. Total loss is $1,196.73.

DISORDERLY CONDUCT

  • Employees for a business in the 600 block of Waukegan Road called police at 3:55 p.m. April 17, to report a male between the ages of 50 and 55, wearing a black baseball cap, back shorts, black shirt, and glasses, was standing near the bushes on the north side of the property yelling at the employees. He then left the area. Officers were unable to locate the male. This is the second incident with the same male yelling at the business.
  • An employee of a business in the 1600 block of Milwaukee Avenue reported at 9:05 p.m. April 17, a male in their late 40s, between 5-foot-7 and 5-foot-10, 200 pounds, with a full beard, short hair with balding on top, followed a guest to their room and blocked them from entering. Officers were unable to locate the offender.
  • Staff at a business in the 1500 block of Milwaukee Avenue called police at 5:01 a.m. April 18, to report a Rockford man in the business had removed their shoes and was unbuttoning and rebuttoning their shirt. When approached by staff, they appeared intoxicated. Staff checked surveillance video which showed the man exposing his penis and masturbating. Officers spoke with the man, who denied any inappropriate behavior. They were given a trespass warning not to return.
  • Police dispatch received a call at 7:39 p.m. April 21, receiving a phone call from a male saying he was holding three girls hostage and had explosives in the residence. The caller told dispatch that there were five men inside, armed with AR15s and handguns and that one witness was shot. Officers responded to the 900 block of Pleasant Lane and spoke with the homeowners, who said everyone was ok inside the residence and they did not make any calls asking for help. There has been a previous occurrence at the same residence for "swatting" and all parties at the home denied knowing who made the call.

BATTERY

  • An employee of a business in the 1500 block of Milwaukee Avenue called police at 9:09 a.m. April 18, to report a customer was upset about an issue with the building. The customer was yelling at the employee, calling them names. They left the business and then immediately returned and slapped the employee. The customer left the scene and later turned themselves into the police department, where they were issued a village ordinance citation for battery.
  • An employee of a business in the 1700 block of Chestnut Avenue reported on April 18 that five days prior, a fellow employee became upset and pushed the complainant against the wall, yelling at them. The employee was seen throwing the complainant’s bag into the roadway on Chestnut Avenue, which damaged the property inside the bag.
  • An Arizona resident called police at 7:13 a.m. April 16, to report that while staying at a hotel in the 2600 block of Lehigh Avenue, they had left their two dogs in the room while they went to get breakfast. When they returned, the neighboring guest, a Michigan resident, opened their door and yelled about the dogs barking. They spit and hit each other during the course of the argument.

IDENTITY THEFT

  • A Glenview Road resident reported at 9:17 a.m. April 18, they did not receive their IRS refund for the 2023 filing year. After corresponding with the IRS, they learned $91,278 was sent to a "Preparer's Account" through Civista Bank, which they do not own. They advised the IRS showed the taxes were filed using their information, but a different phone number and email address.
  • A Glenview resident called police at 8:24 a.m. April 20, to report he had contacted SiriusXM radio to transfer his service from his old car to his new car. He was told by an unknown male that he needed to renew the service and provided his credit card, bank account, and other personal information. After the service did not transfer, he contacted SiriusXM again and learned they had no record of him calling. An attempted withdrawal of $350 from his bank account was made. Police said there was no financial loss at the time of the report.

BURGLARY FROM VEHICLE

The owner of a landscaping trailer reported parking the landscaping trailer on the street in the 1400 block of Kaywaood Lane while doing yardwork in the area. At 10:20 a.m. April 19, a witness saw a white mini van pull up to the trailer and two male blacks exited, then proceeded to remove equipment from the trailer. One of the males had dreadlocks and the other was wearing a ski mask. The driver is unknown and did not get out of the vehicle. Total loss of equipment is $4,600.

HARASSMENT BY TELEPHONE

A Park Drive reisdent reported at 1:43 p.m. April 19, having had an argument with a Northbrook resident, resulting in them calling and texting multiple times. The Glenview resident wanted them to stop calling. Officers advised them to stop calling and they complied.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE
At 5:28 a.m. April 22, a small pile of mulch was seen smoking behind the bathrooms at Johns Park, 2101 Central Road. The Glenview Fire Department extinguished the pile. A small patch of grass was damaged, and the Park District was notified.
