1 In Custody In Connection With Shooting That Killed Girl, 15: Police

ROUND LAKE BEACH, IL — Authorities in Lake County have a person of interest in custody in connection with a shooting that killed a 15-year-old girl in Round Lake Beach.

On Friday, police said they conducted a search of a home and recovered a gun. They are questioning one person in connection with the shooting, but have not released any information regarding the alleged shooter.

The shooting happened outside a home in the 1500 block of Cherokee Drive in Round Lake Beach at about 9:10 p.m. Wednesday. A stray bullet went into the home and hit and killed Valeria Rodriguez, 15.

“After developing several leads, a person of interest was identified. Enough evidence was gathered to support a search warrant at the home of the person of interest. During the search warrant, a firearm was located and seized,” according to a news release from the Lake County Major Crimes Task Force.

The person remains in custody as investigators continue to conduct a follow-up investigation into the homicide, police said.

The Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office will review information gathered by investigators to determine if charges will be filed.
