Grayslake Woman Killed In Route 41 Collision

A semi-truck collided with a sedan on Route 41 in Gurnee Tuesday morning, authorities said.

The collision happened when a Honda sedan was headed south on Route 41, positioned to turn left for northbound Delany Road, but instead left the turne lan and entered back into the southbound lanes of traffic on 41, according to police.

GURNEE, IL — A 63-year-old Grayslake woman was killed after her car was hit by a semi-truck on Route 41 in Gurnee Tuesday morning, authorities said.

The collision happened when a Honda sedan was headed south on Route 41, positioned to turn left for northbound Delany Road, but instead left the turn lane and entered back into the southbound lanes of traffic on 41, according to a news release from the Gurnee Police Department.

The sedan was then hit by a semi that was also traveling south at about 11:50 a.m. on Tuesday, according to the news release. The force of the collision pushed the sedan through the intersection and into a pole.

The woman became trapped inside the vehicle, and emergency crews extricated her from the sedan. She was transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville where she was later pronounced dead.

The cause of the collision remains under investigation by the Major Crash Assistance Team and the Gurnee Police Department.
