Increase In Speeding, Reckless Driving: Lake County Sheriff

LAKE COUNTY, IL — Four people were arrested on accusations of driving under the influence (DUI) and 152 were cited by Lake County Sheriff's office deputies during the May 16 through May 26 Memorial Day traffic safety campaign, during which the Lake County Sheriff's office partnered with statewide law enforcement, according to a news release from the sheriff's office. Among those cited by deputies were five people accused of driving with a suspended/revoked driver's, in addition to 16 citations issued for people operating vehicles without insurance, and 54 for speeding, the news release said.

However, deputy patrols don't stop even though the recent campaign is over.

“We’ve recently seen an increase in people excessively speeding and driving recklessly," Lake County Sheriff John Idleburg said, in the news release. "Our deputies will be out throughout the summer months ensuring those who take to our roadways can travel safely. Please do your part and follow all traffic laws.”

The campaign is administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation with federal highway safety funds, according to the news release.
