Fireworks, Parade and Festival To Mark Fourth of July in Highland Park

A number of holiday activities are planned for the city.

A children’s bike and pet parade, Independence Day parade, Fourth Fest and fireworks display will highlight the Fourth of July in Highland Park in 2015.

According to the city website, the celebration will begin with the Children’s Bike & Pet Parade, sponsored by the Highland Park Chamber of Commerce, at 9:30 a.m.

“Those interested in participating should meet at 9:15 a.m. in the lower level of the parking structure at the northwest corner of St. Johns and Laurel Avenues,” the site reads.

The Independence Day parade, a production of the City and Park District, will follow at 10 a.m. at the intersection of Laurel and St. Johns and head north of St. Johns, then west on Central Avenue and continue to Sunset Park.

Fourth Fest will take place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and feature “a variety of food vendors and musical performers to entertain residents.” Carnival rides, a petting zoo and live music will also take place at Sunset Park.

The night will conclude with a concert at 6 p.m., followed by the aerial fireworks display, which is best viewed from Wolters Field.
