CLARENDON HILLS, IL – Clarendon Hills officials plan to talk Monday about the intersection of 55th Street and Western Avenue.

In response to a request from Trustee Omar Chaudhry, the village produced crash data over the last six years. Nineteen crashes have occurred in that time, or about three a year.

In its report, the village gave no details about the crashes and did not indicate whether a traffic light would have helped.

More than two years ago, the developer of a proposed Dunkin' Donuts on the southwest corner of the intersection hired a traffic consultant. The consultant concluded 55th and Western needed a traffic light.

At the time, Clarendon Hills officials acknowledged the recommendation, but did not say whether they agreed with it.

The Village Board ultimately rejected a drive-thru for the Dunkin' Donuts. With that, the developer, Hinsdale-based KrohVan, decided against continuing with the project, slamming the village in the process.

Afterward, Mike Kaspar of KrohVan told Patch he was confused about why the village refused to consider installing a traffic signal at the intersection.
