JOLIET — The Joliet Police Department said that 27-year-old Dagoberto Urbina-Cruz was arrested this week on two counts of domestic battery after he hit a 4-year-old girl across the back, bruising the child's chest, according to arrest records.

The incident happened over a month ago, but Urbina was just captured this week.

According to Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English, at 6:03 a.m. July 3, officers were flagged down by a woman near Scott Street and Jefferson Street who indicated that a domestic disturbance had just taken place at her house in the 500 block of Franklin Street.

Officers learned that the woman had been asleep when she was awoken by Urbina-Cruz, yelling at a 4-year-old girl, police said. An argument ensued between Urbina-Cruz and the woman, and she then left the house to contact Joliet police.

Officers escorted the woman back to the house to investigate and speak with Urbina-Cruz.

As the investigation progressed, Joliet police say they learned that Urbina-Cruz had struck the 4-year-old child in the back, causing bruising to the skin.

Because Urbina-Cruz had already left the house, officers did not find him at the time.

Following a victim interview by the Will County Children’s Advocacy Center, Joliet police detectives obtained an arrest warrant on July 26 for Urbina-Cruz on the two counts of domestic battery.

Then on Wednesday, Urbina-Cruz was taken into custody at 1:36 a.m., after being located in his vehicle hanging around Pilcher Park, Joliet police reports show.
