MOKENA, IL — Star Students are found in classrooms, on concert and theater stages and at debate lecterns, and out in the community doing good things to make life better for all of us.

Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize Star Students, and we’re working to tell the stories of these outstanding kids to their neighbors.

This submission comes from Teresa, who nominated Natalie of Mokena, Illinois.

How do you know the star local student?

Daughter

Why do you believe the star local student should be recognized?

Natalie or “Nat” as many people call her balances her time between volunteer work, playing for her high school track and tennis team, reciting for the school play, playing the violin, and maintaining good grades. She is currently in National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society, and Science national Honor Society. She is a writing tutor and participates in Welcome Crew for Lincoln-Way Central. She goes above and beyond when it comes to her education and received a Gold Seal of Biliteracy, 2019 Scholars Award from Pop Warner, the Presidential Award for her Academic Excellence from the White House. She also received National Hispanic Recognition Award for academic honors from the College Board National Recognition Programs. She is devoted to her education while committed to making a difference every day. She amazes me with her passion for succeeding and achieving her goals and dreams. She is an inspiration to many and is a light that will help other teens who have overcome struggles. She advocates for people’s rights and is committed to helping others.
