FRANKFORT, IL — A pickup truck collided with a Frankfort police car Monday while an officer was investigating an unrelated crash, officials said Thursday. Patch had been requesting information of the crash since Monday.

Frankfort Police Department Deputy Chief Kevin Keegan said the crash is under investigation by the Will County Sheriff's Accident Review Committee.

The crash happened at the intersection of Route 30 and LaGrange in Frankfort at approximately 12:51 p.m. An officer was responding to a separate crash at LaGrange Road and Colorado Avenue, Keegan said. The squad car had its lights and siren on as the officer tried to pull out of a gas station and head north on LaGrange. A gray Chevy pickup truck heading west on Route 30 collided with the squad car.

The pickup, driven by Jacob Bean, 24, of Tinley Park, flipped on its side on the eastbound side of Route 30, where it struck a blue Honda SUV. The Honda was only slightly damaged, Keegan said.

The officer, who Keegan declined to name at this time, and Bean were both taken to Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox. The officer was OK following the crash. No information on Bean's condition was available.

No citations were issued following the crash. Because the crash involved a Frankfort police officer, the Will County Sheriff's Department is investigating as an independent agency, Keegan said.
