Washington Street: Temporary Lane Closures For Four Months

The city is temporarily closing parts of Washington Street for the second phase of its adaptive traffic signal control installation.

NAPERVILLE, IL - Washington Street will have temporary rolling lane closures for the next four months to allow for the installation of adaptive traffic signal control equipment as part of the second phase of the City’s Centralized Traffic Management System project, according to the City of Naperville.

Depending on the weather, this will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday along Washington Street between Warrenville and Royce roads. At least one lane of traffic will be maintained in each direction at all times, the City said.

Motorists are urged to use caution and allow additional time when traveling in this area.

"The completion of phase one in January 2016 created more consistent synchronization for signals located along Washington Street, as well as made it possible for City staff to collect more traffic data and receive automated notifications when traffic signals in this area malfunction," the City said in a press release.

When phase two is completed in about four months, traffic signals along Washington Street will be continuously monitored in real-time for traffic conditions to optimize the traffic signal system based on conditions. This is make traffic smoother and prevent back-up during normally busy times.
