NORTHBROOK, IL — Since its inception in 1989, the Cancer Wellness Center has provided many important services to local people impacted by cancer and their loved ones. With the success of its most recent annual fundraiser, the Northbrook organization will be able to help plenty more.

For the second straight year, the Center's Stepping Up to Wellness 5K Walk/Run was a success, according to a news release, raising more than $154,000 and still counting. The monies raised at the virtual event allows the Center to continue to provide free counseling, education, support, and wellness programs to anyone impacted by cancer from Chicago’s northern suburbs to rural Illinois.

The Stepping Up to Wellness Virtual Run/Walk was held on April 25, with 55 teams and almost 400 participants. As the premier community building fundraiser of the year, the organization had to make a quick decision when last year’s COVID-19 shutdown occurred just weeks before the annual event that usually draws in-person crowds of over 1,000.

"We are thrilled with the success of our 2nd virtual event as we were unsure of how comfortable people would be getting out and participating,” said Nancy Bulzoni, executive director of the CWC, in the news release. “Much to our delight, we raised more money and are looking forward to reaching our goal of $160,000.”

Donations are still being accepted at the Cancer Wellness Center website through the end of May.
