Man Punches Officers During Arrest: Northbrook PD Blotter

The Northbrook resident was charged with felony counts of aggravated battery to a police officer, battery, resisting and assault.

NORTHBROOK, IL — The following information comes from the Northbrook Police Department and court records as a record of incidents reported to police and those arrested on criminal charges, which represent accusations by the state that are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed to be innocent unless found guilty in court beyond a reasonable doubt.

ARRESTS

SUSPENDED DRIVER'S LICENSE

Gwan D. Maonekeekepoba, of Chicago, is accused of having an expired registration, driving while license suspended, and was arrested at 6:23 p.m. July 26, at Dundee Road and Western Avenue. A court date of Sept. 5 was assigned.

AGGRAVATED BATTERY TO OFFICERS

Jay A. Blumberg, of Northbrook, is accused of two felony counts of aggravated battery to a police officer, two counts of battery, four counts of resisting a peace officer, assault, and was arrested at 11:12 p.m. July 26, in the 2300 block of Castillian Circle. According to police, officers responded to the address to investigate an incident. While speaking to Blumberg, he reportedly shoved one of the officers in the chest. When the other officers tried to place handcuffs on Blumberg, he punched an officer in the head and punched a supervisor in the eye. The battered officers were treated at a hospital for their injuries and were released. A court date of July 29 was assigned.

NO DRIVER'S LICENSE
Jose Garcia-Martinez, of Chicago, is accused of having defective headlights, no valid driver's license, and was arrested at 2:52 a.m. Aug. 1, at Willow Road and Patriot Boulevard. A court date of Aug. 30 was assigned.

INCIDENTS

COMMERCIAL BURGLARY

  • Police responded to a liquor store in the 800 block of Sanders Road at 3:29 a.m. July 26, due to a burglar alarm being activated. Upon arrival, they found the front door smashed. The officers didn't find anyone inside. The surveillance footage to the store showed four people forcibly entering the store, taking approximately $1,700 from the register and several products on display. The group fled in a black Dodge Charger prior to the officers' arrival.
  • Police responded to a burglar alarm at 1:37 a.m. July 30, at an auto body repair facility in the 1800 block of Janke Drive. Once they arrived, they found some of the garage doors open. The officers checked the interior, but no one was inside. After the staff arrived, it was determined that someone had broken into the facility and stole several key fobs to the vehicles stored inside, but fled when officers were responding there.
  • The staff at an auto body shop in the 1900 block of Techny Road called police at 8:59 a.m. July 30, to report that when they had arrived at work, they found the garage doors were forced open. Their surveillance system recorded several people forcing their way inside and walking around the facility. The staff checked the inventory of cars and parts, but couldn’t find anything of value missing.

THEFT

  • A complainant reported at 1:56 p.m. July 26, she had placed her backpack in a locker at her fitness facility in the 4100 block of Dundee Road. She did not lock the locker because she didn’t have her own lock. When she returned, someone had stolen her Coach wallet from her backpack. The wallet contained 10 credit cards and identification.
  • A complainant called police at 3:25 p.m. July 26, to report she had opened her locker at her fitness facility. She walked away to style her hair, but when she returned, her iPhone and wallet were missing from the locker. The wallet contained $100 in cash and credit cards. The complainant was notified that someone had used her credit card to fraudulently purchase items in Skokie amounting to $400.
  • A resident in the 2100 block of Clover Road called police at 6:32 a.m. July 30, to report she had a package delivered to her house. Yet when it arrived, she noticed the package was already opened and the contents were removed. The items inside were valued at $30.
  • The staff at a business in the 600 block of Academy Drive reported at 9:09 a.m. July 30, that when they arrived at work, they noticed their doorbell surveillance system was missing from the doorway of their facility. The surveillance footage showed several people walking around the outside of the building and walking up to the camera of their doorbell. One of the people removed the camera system off the building. They then fled in a sport utility vehicle. The people caught on surveillance matched the same people that were recorded walking around the auto body shop on Techny Road.

RETAIL THEFT

  • The loss prevention of a retail store in the 100 block of Skokie Boulevard reported at 2:47 p.m. July 26, two females had entered the store and walked over to the handbag display. The women used a device to unlock the security cables holding the handbags and released them. They walked out of the store with the stolen items without paying. The handbags were Kensington bags were valued at $289.94.
  • The manager of a retail store in the 900 block of Willow Road reported at 9:25 a.m. July 28, three people had come into the store together. While two were shopping for items, the third grabbed $1,800 worth of cosmetics and walked out of the store without paying for them. They fled in a red four door vehicle.
  • The manager of a retail store in the 1000 block of Waukegan Road called police at 11:35 a.m. Aug. 1, to report he had checked his surveillance system to see if any thefts occurred because several cosmetic items were missing. The footage showed, on July 25, two people entered the store and placed several cosmetics into a large bag. The two subjects walked out of the store without paying. They fled in a red Subaru.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE TO PROPERTY

While on patrol in the 1700 block of Techny Road at 1:05 a.m. July 28, police found a trash can on fire at a park district facility. An officer quickly extinguished the fire using the squad car’s fire extinguisher. The officer did not locate anyone in the area at the time of the fire.

MONEY SCAM

A Joshua Lane resident reported at 2:32 p.m. July 29, that she was contacted by someone from a dating site. After speaking to the person, he convinced her to move her money to different accounts for investment purposes. After several transactions and a wire transfer, the complainant became suspicious because one of the main international accounts wouldn’t allow her to take her money back without incurring penalties. The complainant believed she lost over $300,000 during this scam.

FORGERY

A complainant reported at 10:44 a.m. July 30, a business check that was sent to one of the vendors was stolen at some point during transit. The check was altered and new payees were added to the check. The check was cashed and paid to someone in the amount of $11,504.42.

CHECK FRAUD

The staff at an auto dealership in the 100 block of Skokie Boulevard reported on July 30 that one week earlier, they had accepted a check for over $86,000 for the purchase of a used BMW. The customer left with the vehicle and the check was deposited. The check came back indicating there weren’t enough funds to cover the check amount in the account. The dealership tried depositing it again, but had the same results. They tried contacting the customer, but he has since blocked their calls. The officer attempted to find the customer and car at the address listed on the purchase paperwork, but the car and the person were not there.
